How Deep Should a Koi Pond Be?
Koi ponds don’t need to be deep. Something that’s 3 feet deep would suffice. But if you can make a deeper, wide pond, then that would be better for your fish.

Consider your location because if you live in a place where it snows, you’ll have to invest in a heater that can keep the koi pond temperature at around 65 to 75 degrees F (18 to 24 C). Although koi can actually hibernate under the ice during winter, the pond temperature might be cold that the water could freeze and your koi will die.
Are Koi Ponds High Maintenance?
Koi look so beautiful but as a carp species, they are actually dirty fish that love to dig up the mucky bottom and produce a lot of waste. A dirty koi pond isn’t just ugly to look at, it can also smell bad! So, be prepared for regular cleaning because koi ponds are high maintenance.
How Do You Make a Cheap Koi Pond?
The good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to build a koi pond – that’s if you take the DIY route. You can use cement to build the koi pond. Just search for cheap koi pond ideas to copy so you’ll have a good one at home.

In my area there are not many koi ponds. I only know of one and I never knew you have to heat it and clean it. ll not make one in my yard.

This one’s nice! I’ve always wanted a koi pond at home because it looks so relaxing. especially with all those plants.
We have a small goldfish pond (about 5 feet by 8 feet) that we love! Originally we thought we might get some koi, but goldfish are a better fit for us. We mostly have comets but have added a couple of fancy goldfish too. During the spring and summer, we have to clean the filter every few days.
This would be so neat to have. I would love a pond like this. I’ll have to think about having one of these. They would be wonderful.
We created a small garden pond with the hopes of having fish, but the amount of frogs we have gotten has made that impossible.. I still buy little comets with hope they last a few months, but mostly I find that I’m just feeding the wildlife lol
