Should you go large, medium or small? How many chairs should surround it? Should it be rectangular, circular, oval or squared? What colors are the best options? Such is the dilemma one can expect when making a choice on a dining table. With so many options to choose from, the decision-making process has become one riddled with doubt, confusion, and uncertainty.
The following tips should, however, be of assistance to you in helping you come to an easy and informed decision of choice of the dining table.
Function
Much as it is a dining table, you should consider its function. Is it just a dining table? Do you intend to use it for more? If it is to be used for more than meals, like for the children’s homework, you would want a stronger table.
Size
Before selecting a dining table, check whether there will be enough space from the wall, to allow for unstrained movements around and arrangement of seating. There are varying specifications on the minimum distance ideal around the room so asking an interior decorator might be a wise option. You should also consider such things as the number of the users that might seat at the table. If for instance, you host large family parties, you will need a large table.
Décor
The days when you would consciously choose a dining table for the sake of functionality, without paying attention to the décor are far behind us. Back then, there would have been a limit of options, but nowadays there are many stylish and quality functional dining tables found in the numerous operational stores. When making your choice, pay attention to the interior décor and pick a table that complements your taste. The color and texture specifications all fall under décor.
Shape
The preconceived notion that you can choose any shape of the dining table is wrong. The shape plays a very functional role. For starters, it should fit in the room or space available. For instance, a rectangular table in a square space would be very cramped up. Rectangular dining tables are better for large spaces and allow for a much larger setting. Round tables are great for small and open spaces, as are square tables although these can fit into larger spaces. Oval tables combine the functional capacity of rectangular and circular tables.
Location
If the table is to be set outside on the deck where there is more exposure to sunlight and humidity, you should choose one made from durable material. If it is to be set inside, you can select a delicate material such as glass.
These are good tips to know. I will remember them for when I buy a new table.
