Depending on the model, different Whirlpool washer cleaning instructions are required. Models may vary in terms of the design of the detergent dispenser, the location of your drain pump, and other features. However, there are basic ways you can clean your Whirlpool washing machine that applies to all. Here are some of them:

1. Clean parts prone to mildew & molds

It would be best if you made the extra effort to go through the nitty-gritty parts to remove mildew and molds. Using a damp cloth, cleaning wipe, or an all-purpose cleaner, you need to clean the following parts:

  • Door gasket
  • Lid or door
  • Rubber seal
  • Outside of the washer

You might need to learn how to deodorize and bleach to help remove odor from your smelly washing machine.

2. Use cleaner agents

Whirlpool recommends using the affresh® Washing Machine Cleaner tablet. Drop it at the bottom of an empty tub. Run a cleaning cycle or a regular cycle with the hot water setting. After your cleaning cycle is finished, run a rinse and spin cycle to remove any extra cleansers. If you don’t have affresh®, you can opt to use other cleaning agents or more natural alternatives such as white vinegar and bleach or vinegar and baking soda solutions.

3. Wash the dispenser and filter

Depending on your Whirlpool model, you may or may not have a dispenser drawer. But if you have, you need to clean it every 30 days. Pull out the drawer and clean it on all surfaces. Remember, it’s not dishwasher safe, so you must do it by hand with warm soapy water using a soft brush. Do the same for the dispensing slot or housing as well.

You don’t need to clean the filter every time you wash your washing machine, but do it every few months. Always unplug your washing machine if you’re planning to clean the filters. The pump filter can be found on the bottom right of the washing machine but might vary depending on the model. Pull it out and wash it thoroughly using a soft brush.

4. Wipe clean and dry

Once you’re done, keep all the parts dry before putting them back. Wipe clean the outside and inside of the washing machine. Keep the lid open for a while to make sure it’s air-dried.

There you go! Cleaning your Whirlpool washing machine is easy if you know the right steps. Keep your washing machine in good condition, and it’ll reward you with long years of service.
