How to Grow Vegetables Using Recycled Plastic Bottles

Did you know that it can be easy to grow vegetables at home using recycled plastic bottles?

Most households have a lot of plastic bottles from soft drinks, milk, or water. You can easily convert these into plastic pots that you can hang for your vertical garden or arrange neatly on the ground.

What You’ll Need

These are the things you will need for growing vegetables in recycled plastic bottles:

• Big plastic bottles (as main pot)
• Smaller plastic bottles (as an accent)
• Cutter or scissors
• Drill
• Soil
• Water
• Plants

How to Make the Recycled Plastic Pots

Step 1. Clean the plastic bottles and remove the labels, if you want.

Step 2. Cut the cone part from the top portion of the bigger bottle using a cutter or a pair of scissors. You’ll need the bottom part. Trim the edges.

Step 3. Cut the smaller bottles. You’ll need the top part.

Step 4. Create holes at the sides of the big plastic bottle using the size of the small bottles as guide.

Step 5. Cut a circular hole from the smaller bottles.

Step 6. Drill holes at the bottom of your big plastic bottle pot.

Step 7. Carefully arrange the smaller bottles at the sides of the bigger bottle.

Step 8. Fill all your pots with soil.

Step 9. Once ready, wet the soil.

Step 10. Transplant your vegetables into your recycled pots.

It is also possible to directly plant your seeds into your new pots, depending on the type of plant and your preferences.

You can also mix and match your vegetables and plants in this special pot because you have a main pot and four small ones at the side.

Step 11. Put your new pot at the place you want it to be. Make sure that it’s a spot where the plants can get enough sun.

But you can also put these indoors. Just make sure to bring the pots out at least a few days a week so they can also get some sun.
