Did you know that it’s actually easy (and cheap) to build a raised bed for easy backyard gardening?
Growing your own vegetables at home is an easy and cheap way to have organic, fresh vegetables. But many are worried that it would be quite expensive and tedious to have a backyard garden.
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to make raised beds so you can grow vegetables at home.
Making Raised Beds for Your Backyard Garden
There are actually many different ways for you to make a garden in your yard. You can create a plot from the ground so you wouldn’t have to use extra materials.
But if you want to make raised beds, follow these easy steps from The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni:
Step 1. This raised bed is going to 4 ft by 8 ft.
Prepare the wood:
- Three pieces 2” x 10” x 8’
- Three pieces 2” x 4” x 8’
Step 2. If you want a perfect raised bed, you can cut the wood to uniform sizes. But most people won’t mind not having the exact same dimensions.
Step 3. Cut one of the 2” x 10” wood in half. Do the same for the 2” x 4” wood. Each piece goes to either end of your bed.
Step 4. Clean out the area where you want your raised bed to be on. Remove the weeds, roots, stumps, and other stuff inside.
Step 5. Set up your raised bed using the 2” x 10” wood pieces on the cleared-out spot. You can use 3-inch screws to put these wood pieces together. It’s best to pre-drill the spot where you’ll drive the screw in so the wood doesn’t split.
Step 6. Set up the 2” x 4” pieces above your raised bed. Lay them flat above the raised bed and screw them in place.
Step 7. Once your raised bed is ready, fill it with mulch and garden soil. Mix the two together. Your raised bed is now ready for planting.
